“Conor is the best counter-puncher in UFC history. Dustin Poirier’s number one weapon is boxing” – Firas Zahabi
Georges St. Pierre’s coach Firas Zahabi explained why he believes Conor McGregor is the greatest counter puncher in UFC history. In a recent interview the long time coach of GSP stated that throwing punches at McGregor is just “feeding the McGregor machine”
Zahabi Gives A 60/40 Edge to Conor McGregor In Rematch
Zahabi is one of the greatest MMA coaches of all time, so when it comes to his opinion and predictions I take them seriously. During his Tristar Gym podcast, Zahabi explained why he thinks McGregor has the edge in the highly anticipated rematch…
“Two elite guys who were world champions, they both have ways to win, they both are super seasoned and super experienced. They are both super dangerous and both are finishers. Why am I being so generous towards Conor McGregor? I think this one has a lot to do with styles.Conor is the best counter-puncher in UFC history. Dustin Poirier’s number one weapon is boxing. So he is kind of feeding the McGregor machine exactly what it wants. McGregor wants you to throw punches at him, and when you do, he is going to make you pay. Dustin Poirier is a great puncher, just not at the level of Conor McGregor”

Although I do believe McGregor is the better striker, Poirier has drastically improved over the years and shows that he is not just a boxer, but a complete MMA fighter. I get that Dustin is the underdog considering their first bout ended with McGregor earning a KO victory in the first round, but that was SIX YEARS AGO. Poirier has grown so much over the years and has stayed active. I think this will go down as one of the greatest fights in Lightweight history, but will it be for the Lightweight title? That is the $1,000,000 question…
