The bad news for the Detroit Lions continues to pile up, and the latest involves Frank Ragnow.

On Wednesday morning, Lions head coach Dan Campbell said the Pro Bowl Center would be out of action for the foreseeable future when addressing the addition of Ryan McCollum.

“First of all, we know he’s played Center,” said Campbell. “And he’s done it in games. We think he’s a pretty smart guy. Especially knowing that Frank [Ragnow] could be down for a while. We think he could be down for a pretty long time.”

“[So] to have a guy at true Center, you know, that can help back up Evan [Boehm], we’re glad that we got him in the building.”

Before Wednesday’s media session, the Lions placed Ragnow on IR.

Ragnow is the latest key contributor to miss time with a significant injury in only the season’s fourth week. The Lions are still missing Taylor Decker and EDGE Trey Flowers, both of whom should return soon. But they’re also without Jeff Okudah and Romeo Okwara, who will not return this season due to an Achilles injury.

Campbell also told reporters that rookie Penei Sewell is dealing with injuries as well, and his status for Sunday vs. the Minnesota Vikings is uncertain.

“He’s a little banged up,” said Campbell. “We’ll see where he’s at.”

He was absent from Wednesday’s practice along with tight end T.J. Hockenson.

As the Lions head to Minnesota to earn their first win, they’ll have to do it without a ton of key players. They are currently last place in the NFC North. A win on Sunday would do wonder for turning things around.
