UFC newcomer Michael Chandler is still waiting on the organization to tell him who his first fight will be against, but he has a feeling it will be against Tony Ferguson. Although Chandler is a fill in should either Khabib or Gaethje pull out at UFC 254, Ferguson is the perfect first match up for the former Bellator champ.
Chandler vs Ferguson Is A Perfect Match Up For Both Fighters
Chandler is coming off of impressive back to back TKO victories in Bellator. For years the rumors have been swirling regarding Chandler’s possible debut in the UFC. MMA fans have always chirped that there’s no way a Bellator fighter can compere with a UFC fighter. The Lightweight division couldn’t be any more stacked right now, but Ferguson is the perfect first fight for Chandler. Sure, Ferguson is coming off of a loss, but before the fight with Gaethje El Cucuy was on a 12 fight win streak. Ferguson lost to Gaethje who is now fighting for the title.
Ferguson Is One Of The Toughest Fighters In UFC History
Just because Ferguson lost his winning streak doesn’t mean he’s a walk in the park. The man is possibly the most violent UFC fighter of all time, and Chandler facing Ferguson for his first fight is going to show us a lot. If he can beat Ferguson he’ll most likely earn a UFC title shot. If he loses its not the end of the world considering Chandler most likely signed a three fight deal with the UFC and can reset and work his way up the division again.
This fight interests me more than any other current rumored UFC fight. If Chandler beats Ferguson it proves that Bellator does have high caliber fighters and can compete with the UFC. Although the UFC is light years ahead of Bellator and has basically created a monopoly in MMA, Chandler may be the one to prove that Bellator fighters are just as dominant as UFC fighters. A victory over Ferguson would prove that Chandler is the next big thing in MMA in my opinion, so this fight needs to happen.
