Tony Ferguson Wants To Say Active In 2020
Tony Ferguson has no plans of slowing down in 2020, in fact he’s willing to move up in weight in order to fight again this year. Ferguson (25-4) last fought in May 2020 and suffered his first loss in 8 years against Justin Gaethje. The fight ended Ferguson’s 12 fight win streak and put a halt to any chance of Khabib vs Ferguson fighting any time soon.
One Of The Most Violent Fights In UFC History Making The Move To Welterweight?
When it comes to pure violence in the octagon, not many compete with Tony Ferguson. El Cucuy wants to stay active in 2020, and in a recent interview made it clear that he’s willing to move up in weight to do so.
“I got Welterweight and I’ve got the frame to go up to Middleweight. I like to go out there and compete. Everybody forgets that I used to knock everybody out at 170. I don’t wait on f***ing nobody. Khabib, he can retire. He can do whatever he wants. I’m not gonna hold his hand. I’ll be there for him as a brother in f***ing arms across the mat, but that’s all I can say.”
Tony Ferguson
Ferguson is right, he is known to knock out fighters at any weight class. If El Cucuy does decide to return to the 170lb division who should he fight next? There are plenty of options, but I’d die to see a potential Tony Ferguson vs Nate Diaz bout, but that is far from a reality. When you look at the current top 10 rankings there’s a couple fights that would make sense for Ferguson. Stephen Thompson, Michael Chiesa, and Leon Edwards stand out as potential fights, but we’ll see how this plays out.
Although I don’t think the Khabib and Ferguson fight will happen anytime soon, it’s always there for Dana to once again try to book. With Ferguson mentioning moving up to Welterweight it at least gives El Cucuy a shot a new division to pick at and will hopefully lead to him staying active in the UFC in 2020.
