The biggest debate happening around the Woodward Sports office is all about the Quarterback.  Dorian Thompson-Robinson might be the answer to all the questions.

Names like CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson, Will Levis are all being mentioned as the future quarterback for the Detroit Lions. They all have some merit to them.

I am in the camp of not wanting to spend ANY early draft capital on a QB.  Jared Goff has proven he can run this offense to perfection.  He limits turnovers and most of all his teammates seem to love him.

But, Jared might not be in the 4 to 8-year plan for the Lions.  Detroit needs to insulate the Quarterback position. Relying on Blough, Boyle or Beathard to pick up the slack if something were to happen to Goff doesn’t seem like a solid game plan.

Enter Dorian Thompson Robinson. I think this is a guy the Lions should target in the fourth round and still be the guy that is the future of the Lions offense. He isn’t as mobile as Stroud or Richardson but he has enough footspeed to keep plays alive.  What I really like about him is how he keeps his head down field when being pressured. He also steps up in the pocket, not backward, when there is a rush.  That is a little thing that gives you so many more options when a play breaks down.

Robinson has become the school’s all-time leader in total offense (12,236 yards), total touchdowns (113), completions (844), passing touchdowns (94) and quarterback starts (47).

Another feather in the cap of Dorian Thompson-Robinson is the coach he played for.  Say what you want about Chip Kelly, but he was an NFL coach and knows how to prepare players for the next level. DTR has grown a lot under the coaching of Kelly and put himself in position to be considered as a future starter in the NFL.

The Detroit Lions need a backup and someone that can take them into the future. If they are going out on a limb this year DTR is the guy.

In Brad Holmes I trust.
