There is another reason to be concerned about Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams.
He was suspended Friday for six games by the NFL for violating the league’s gambling policy.
That means Lions fans won’t get their next glimpse of Jameson until mid October. It is believed that Williams bet on college football games while inside an NFL facility.
He is one of four Detroit Lions suspended. Wide receiver Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore were suspended indefinitely. The Lions immediately released both players.
Williams remains on the team, but he raises more character issues with some Lions fans. Some called for the Lions to release him, which is a huge overreaction for a second-year receiver.
He missed most of the 2022 season with with a knee injury sustained when he played at the University of Alabama. The Lions traded up to get him in the first round because many scouts viewed him as the best receiver in the draft.

No Evidence of Compromised Games

The NFL determined that there was no evidence of any games being compromised.
“As a result of an NFL investigation, it came to our attention that a few of our players had violated the league’s gambling policy,” Lions GM Brad Holmes said in a statement. “These players exhibited decision making that is not consistent with our organizational values and violated league rules. We are disappointed by the decision making demonstrated by Stanley and Jameson and will work with both players to ensure they understand the severity of these violations and have clarity on the league rules moving forward.”
League rules state that players may not bet on NFL games, the draft or or league related activities. They also must not make bets in any league facility.
