By everyone’s measure Dan Campbell should be up for Coach of The Year. Well, by everyone but The AP.
The coach of the year candidates came out and no MCDC in sight.
The Finalists are as follows:
- – Giants HC Brian Daboll
- – 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan
- – Eagles HC Nick Sirianni
- – Bills HC Sean McDermott
- – Jaguars HC Doug Pederson
Everyone of those coach’s have merit to be the Coach of the Year. To me, Daboll or Pederson will most likely win the award. But you can add this to the long list of chips that the Detroit Lions will carry on their shoulders next year.
Both Daboll and Pederson did more with less. After the Jags won a playoff game this post season Doug Pederson became the first coach to take the worst team in the league the previous year and win a post season game. Whenever you do something that has never been done you deserve an award.
The Detroit Lions finished the season 8-2 in their final 10 games. Missing the playoffs because of some questionable calls in the Seahawks vs Rams game. They shut down Aaron Rodgers from making the playoffs and won in Lambeau.
If the Lions would have made the playoffs they would have been the first team to start 1-6 and make the playoffs since 1974. That might have helped his cause to win Coach of the Year. But to not even get mentioned is an insult to Campbell and his staff.
