College Football Best Bets: Week 5

Overall Record: 17-16-1

Last Week: 2-5-1

Week 5 of best bets if here and coming off my worst weekend of the season so far, I really am looking to bounce back with a loaded slate of games. There are 5 top 25 matchups this weekend, and a ton of top 25 teams outside of that, that can easily get upset today. This weekend smells like a weekend of underdogs looking to mix things up a bit and I absolutely love it. Lets get rolling with some of my picks and have a bounce back week. As always, below is the list of different picks I have. If you want winners, come back here every Saturday morning before you click submit on all of your college football bets. I will dive into all the trends, data, stats, and matchups so you don’t have too. Here we go. Let’s have a day here are my Week 5 best bets.

  • Boon’s Lock of the Week (3-2 record)

  • Dog of the Week/Upset (0-3)

  • Overs Play of the Week  (3-2 record)

  • Unders Play of the Week (4-1 record)

  • BIG TEN Play (0-5 record)

  • “Super Conference” Play (4-0)

  • Bonus Play (3-2-1 record)

Boon’s Best Bet of the Week: #2 Alabama @ #20 Arkansas 3:30pm

Bet: #20 Arkansas +17

To kick off my Week 5 best bets, I want to take down the monster in Alabama. Everyone in this world is going to be looking at this game and wanting to take Alabama in this game just based on the name. But, we saw first hand earlier this season when Alabama went and had a tough challenge on the road vs. Texas how they played. This Arkansas team is coming off of a heartbreaking loss last week to Texas A&M and are coming into this game hungrier than ever. This spread should be sitting at 10 or 11. Vegas giving us a touchdown on top of that is love. I have made it very clear KJ Jefferson is one of my favorite players in the whole country and this team can compete with anyone. My favorite play of the day, I am hammering Arkansas and the 17 points that Vegas is handing us.

Dog of the Week/Upset: #7 Kentucky @ #14 Ole Miss 12:00pm

Bet: #7 Kentucky +7.5/ML +200

Listen, this is my second play on this game in my card. Week 5 has one of the most packed weekends we will have all year for our best bets. But I am a true believer of Will Levis and this Kentucky team. We heard Lane Kiffin in the media all week talking about how bad the student section at home has been for Ole Miss. I do expect there to be a good atmosphere still at this game being a top 25 SEC matchup. But, everyone is sleeping on Kentucky coming into this game and this is a team that went into Gainesville and beat a ranked Florida team. We haven’t found a dog win yet but I love this pick this week and think we are going to put our first on the board today.

Overs Play of The Week: UAB @ Rice 7:30pm

Bet: OVER 51

If you haven’t noticed through week 5 that betting the over is one of my favorite things to do then you haven’t been betting my games. It’s easy to get caught betting overs and games that have no business going over just because you want to see some good football. But, just like last week I am going back to my old reliable team to get me another Over win. Rice is 4-0 on the over this season averaging 31 Points per game and giving up 32 points per game. They’re taking on a UAB team that averages 36 points per game. The only downfall of this game is UAB has a pretty good defense giving up only 14 points per game. UAB most likely will win this game, but the fact that Rice gives up 32 points a game I love this play. UAB may score over 40 points and we know Rice will be good for a few TDs.

Under Play of The Week: #7 Kentucky @ #14 Ole Miss 12:00pm

Bet: UNDER 54.5

This is one of my favorite plays of the week. Coming off my first unders loss of the year, now sitting at 4-1. I found a game that the total is sitting way to high in my opinion. Kentucky is coming into this game only giving up 13 points per game and Ole Miss is only giving up 10 points per game. This game is going to be super close all the way until the last 2 minutes and its going to be a ground game. Kentucky is getting back there #1 RB in Chris Rodriguez. The only other ranked team Kentucky played @ Florida I took the Under and it was never a doubt. I hate cheering for no points in a game, but lets hope for a defensive clinic in Oxford today.

BIG TEN Play: Rutgers @ #3 Ohio State 3:30pm

Bet: OVER 58

Sitting at 0-5 in my BIG TEN plays. It has came to a point where I can bet on any BIG TEN team that I want to mush each week. Now, today I really went through each game to find a winner and there was only one that seems to come through every week. Ohio State is typically running up on the score on not so great conference opponents. This screams one of those games. We are going to see a game where Ohio St. puts up around 50 points and then we just need one touchdown from Rutgers. Trust me, I am not betting on an Ohio State game just to mush them this week.

Super Conference Play: #10 NC State @ #5 Clemson 7:30 pm

Bet: #10 NC State +7

This might be the biggest game of the whole slate. Some of the biggest College Football Playoff implications on the line. NC State finally has a chance to prove what all there hype was coming into this season vs. #5 Clemson. Now, Clemson coming off a tough win last week going to double overtime vs. Wake Forest might be in trouble with a pretty good NC State coming into town. Devin Leary has been really good for NC State the last few weeks with a  really good offensive line in front of him. The winner of this game most likely will have the advantage to win the ACC and have a chance to get to the CFB Playoffs. I love the underdog in this game getting a TD.

Bonus Play: #4 Michigan @ Iowa 12:00pm

Bet: #4 Michigan -10.5

Every week I try and stay away from putting Michigan on my card so I can just enjoy their games. But I really had no chance at all this week. We all were questioning Michigan last week after a win over Maryland at home where they struggled to pull away. But, this Iowa team is no where near Maryland. Road game or not. Great defense or not. This Iowa team isn’t what everyone thinks, on defense they have played some of the worst offense in the country. The three FBS teams Iowa played were 76th, 98th, and 123rd in total yards per game in all of college football on top of a FCS opponent. They have yet to see a offense like Michigan sitting in the Top 20. On the other side of the ball they are dead last in FBS in yards per game at 232 yards. The talk of their defense is keeping this spread at 10.5 when it should at least be at two touchdowns. Give me Michigan -10.5 to wrap up my Week 5 best bets.
