College Football Best Bets: Week 0

FOOTBALL IS BACK! Week 0 of College Football officially kicks of the 2022-23 football season this weekend. Yes, I know there aren’t any GREAT games. But the fact that we have an 11 game slate of meaningful (kind of) football makes it feel like it is Christmas morning. The week zero slate doesn’t have one top 25 team playing, but If we are being honest every college football fan in America will have tv’s set up, tuned in all day, and gambling on every game. Through the whole season, I am going to bring you all my College Football best bets every Saturday. Diving in to different stats, all the data, and every trend in college football. I will bring bets each Saturday for 6-7 different main segments shown below:

  • Boon’s Lock of the Week

  • The Plus Sign Play

  • Overs Play of the Week

  • Unders Play of the Week

  • Top 25 Upset

  • BIG TEN Play

  • “Super Conference” Play

Now, some of these segments may change as the season goes on or maybe even some get added especially with a short week like Week 0. As always the goal is to go undefeated every Saturday and become the best sports gambler at Woodward Sports. Remember, this is a marathon not a sprint. Now, there will not be a Saturday going forward without College Football until January 7th. 20 straight weeks of College Football best bets. Strap in.

Boon’s Best Bet of the Week: Hawaii +9.5 vs. Vanderbilt (10:30pm)

Lock of the week goes to Hawaii at +9.5 vs Vanderbilt. Yes, I know this is the last game of the night and we won’t win this bet until after 1:00 am est. This game simply cannot lose. Hawaii has a whole revamp this offseason with basically their whole team leaving in the transfer portal. Hawaii legend Timmy Chang has taken over the helm of this program, and to me with this being his first game back in Hawaii leading this program I believe that this is a tough game for Vanderbilt with the energy that will be in the stadium. Vanderbilt has been the worst team in the SEC going on over 3 seasons now and coming off of a 2-10 last season. Lets start this College Football season off 1-0 in LOCKS and hammer this play (responsibly)!

Overs Play of The Week: Nevada @ New Mexico State Over 48 (10:00pm)

Another late night match up on my betting slip today. But, you’re looking at 2 teams that were constantly playing in high scoring games last season in the Mountain West. With Nevada being 9-4 on the over last season and New Mexico State being 7-4. Both of these team are coming into this game with two new Head Coaches taking over their programs . That won’t change these two teams from coming out and putting up numbers as usual.

Under Play of The Week: North Texas @ UTEP Under 54.5 (9:00pm)

With a small slate of games today this matchup was the only one that really stood out to me to take the under. A conference matchup in the Conference USA. Last season, when these two teams matched up it was a very similar total sitting at 55.5 and UTEP won 20-17. I expect this game to be similar, a lower scoring close matchup that will come down to the last drive. Two teams with a handful of returners and 2 coaches that are very familiar with each others offense. North Texas sitting at a -1.5 point favorite shows that the this is going to be a great game.

BIG TEN Play: Nebraska -11 vs. Northwestern (12:30pm)

You didn’t think I would give out my picks and leave out the biggest game of the Week 0 slate, did you? That’s right, Nebraska vs. Northwestern is the headline game on the first Saturday of College Football. I have been studying this game all week long and going back and forth from Northwestern to Nebraska. When I first saw this line Nebraska started as -13.5 point favorites and now it is sitting at -11.0 spread. So we are responsibly hammering Nebraska -11. Scott Frost has EVERYTHING to prove this season after going 3-9 last season. Nebraska was probably the best 3-9 team we have ever seen in college football. But, with a new look at quarterback with Casey Thompson coming over from Texas. Nebraska is going to come out and make a statement in Dublin.

Bonus Play: Wyoming @ Illinois -13.5 (4:00pm)

I had to add to my bet splits the only other Big Ten school playing today. This line opened up earlier this week at Illinois -11 and has moved to -13.5 and on some sports books is sitting at -14.5. This Wyoming team is coming into this season losing some of their best players from last season including their starting QB Sean Chambers. But this Illinois team is coming in this season with a fresh start on offense with new OC Barry Lunney Jr. I believe this Illinois team will start the season hot with a big win at home vs this Wyoming team.
