Former Detroit Piston All-Star and NBA Finals MVP Chauncey Billups has officially signed to be a coach in the NBA. Mr. Big Shot will join the LA Clippers next season as an Assistant Coach.

Chauncey Billups has been rumored to be wanting to be an NBA coach for a while now. Well, he finally got his wish. While the role is not with the Detroit Pistons, I’m still happy Mr. Big Shot gets his Big Shot in the NBA.

As you all know Chauncey was one of the best floor generals to ever come through the NBA. The way he guided a Larry Brown offense through the 2004 NBA playoffs was masterful. Add to the mix that he was also a solid defender and you get a well rounded Basketball Legend.

I was really hoping Chauncey would land a Head Coaching gig. But, this is a good place to start. You have a stacked team. You have Ty Lue as your head couch. We’ve seen him give control to his other players and coaches while he has the lead role. So I don’t predict this being a long stop for Billups.

Maybe while the Detroit Pistons are in rebuild mode we can time it right. That way when we need the next Larry Brown, Chauncey is a seasoned assistant and ready for the role here. I know its wishful thinking. But that’s what I love to do!
