Despite having yet to play a game, the new-look Detroit Lions are not without its supporters. Among them is one of the greatest Lions players ever. Some of you may be familiar with him. His name is Calvin Johnson.

On Thursday evening, Johnson and former teammate Lions teammate Rob Sims held a “meet and greet” session at JARS Cannabis in River Rouge. The duo’s appearance was to promote Primitiv, their new line of cannabis products. After the hour-long session, Johnson and Sims spoke with the media, fielding questions about their joint venture. And, of course, there was some Detroit Lions talk.

One of Megatron’s questions was about comments made earlier in the day by Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn

Before OTAs (organized team activities) kicked off, Glenn addressed Levi Onwuzurike’s remarks from the second night of this year’s NFL draft while speaking to the media.

“I like f*cking people up,” Onwuzurike told media immediately after the Lions drafted him.

“I like to get off the line and just put my helmet or my hands on an offensive lineman and fuck up an offense scheme, pretty much.”

Glenn addressed Onwuzurike’s comments, ending his reply with, “We want ass-kickers!” When asked about Glenn’s remarks, Johnson and Sims’ eyes lit up.

“You gotta have that mindset,” Johnson told Woodward Sports. “It’s a violent game. You can’t be a sheep out there. You gotta be a wolf.”

Sims doubled down on that notion as well.

“This the Detroit way,” said Sims.

“You can say whatever you want to say about the Lions, but we were always physical, and we were always nasty.” Sims and Johnson played four seasons together in Detroit with two different head coaches, Jim Schwartz and Jim Caldwell.

While the duo didn’t mind fielding questions about the Lions, the purpose of their appearance was to promote their cannabis line and talk about its usage. Over the past several years, Johnson has been very vocal about cannabis education and its benefits. When asked if he thinks the NFL will approve its usage soon, he touched on the progress the league has made so far.

“They took a big step in the last collective bargaining agreement,” said Johnson. “I don’t think there’s any pressure for it, but they did take some strides.”

A glaring detail from their Q & A session was their love for Detroit. It’s a large part of the reason their brand, Primitiv, debuted here.

“The reason for staying in Detroit is this city [and] these fans gave so much to us,” said Sims. “So we’ve said our culture is we wanted to take care of our backyard first. The rest of the country and world can wait.”
