The Detroit Pistons first overall pick Cade Cunningham has lots of expectations for his rookie season. As many believe, Cunningham could end up being a future star in the league. Others believe that he could end up being a bust.

So, let’s break down the expectations and best, worse, and likely scenarios for Cunningham’s first season.

Best Case Scenario

The best-case scenario for Cunningham is that he ends up playing at a superstar level. Similar to a Luka Doncic or a Lebron James level type player. Cunningham would be leading all rookies in points and 3-pointers made. Also, he ranks in the top 5 in all rookies’ in assist, steals, and field goal percentages.

It includes the Pistons making the playoffs and being competitive in the first round of the playoffs. Cunningham would also be the clear winner for rookie of the year and is on the all-rookie first-team.

Worse Case Scenario

The worst-case scenario for Cunningham is that he ends up not being the player that Pistons fans imagine him to be. Cunningham’s worse case is that he is on the all-rookie second team. Also, he is in the top 15 in points, assists, and steals.

Cunningham’s worse case could compare to a Brandon Knight rookie season. He performs at a high level but never reached his full potential as a star player in his first season.

Likely Case Scenario

The most likely scenario for Cunningham is that he is a top 3 rookie in the draft class. He ends up being on the all-rookie team and either win rookie of the year or is in the top three in voting.

Also, Cunningham finishes second behind Jalen Green in scoring and finished in the top 10 in assists, steals, and field goal percentages.
