Good news, Detroit Lions fans, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is staying in Detroit. Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, he interviewed virtually with the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texas. He was schedule to meet with Carolina on Wednesday, but that will now not happen.
#Lions OC Ben Johnson informed interested teams he’s staying in Detroit, per sources.
Johnson was slated to travel Wednesday to interview with the #Panthers. But he feels Detroit is building something special and wants to see it through. Should be a hot HC name again next year. pic.twitter.com/vUNLyKFtLf

The Lions offense flourished under Johnson in his first season as the offensive coordinator. Under Johnson, the Lions were in top five in total points, yards a game, points per game and passing yards. A stat that really pops out is the Lions were third in the league in total yards with 6,460. Quarterback Jared Goff’s comfortably with Ben Johnson was evident as his confidence grew each start.
Ben Johnson is surrounded by offensive weapons
Johnson will have much of the same offense weapons that he did in 2022. The Lions have Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams back at receiver in 2023. Per Justin Rogers of the Detroit News, DJ Chark wants to return to Detroit and the feeling is mutual in the front office.
As Stick mentioned, if there was one thing Matt Patricia got right, it was brining Ben Johnson aboard in 2019.
