After accepting a bout with Jake Paul, Ben Askren took to Instagram to slam the YouTuber for going radio silent.
Ben Askren revealed on social media on Sunday that he hasn’t heard a peep from Paul since accepting his offer for a boxing match on March 28th 2021.
I’m retired, coaching wrestling, doing some podcasts, buying some bitcoin, enjoying life,” Askren said. “I don’t really want to fight anybody. So November, this jabroni Jake Paul calls me out, puts up a poster with my name, haha. It’s kinda funny, whatever, no big deal. Well then, a couple weeks later, I get a couple of texts. Then a week after that I get some calls. Then I get an offer. OK, this guy really wants to fight. Am I opposed to making some easy money beating up a YouTuber? Of course I’m not. So what do I do? Sure, Jacob, I’ll fight you. No problem. I accept publicly on Twitter nonetheless. Since then, Jacob’s went silent. Jacob’s kind of a coward. Sorry guys, don’t think the fight is gonna happen.

Since Paul has gone silent since the call out I’m going to assume the fight is off because Jake found a better opportunity. Sure, a fight with a former UFC fighter would raise Paul’s stock, but against Askren it wouldn’t do much for Jake. He has a better chance of getting more PPV buys from someone like Michael Bisbing or Dillon Dannis.
Plus, lets be real here, if Askren loses to a “YouTuber” we might not ever see him again. He already went 1-2 in the UFC so why would you take the risk and possibly lose to Jake Paul? Money? Sure, money is great, but legacy is important. Askren won 17 straight fights before losing to Jorge Masvidal in the fastest knockouts in UFC history. No one remembers Askren’s 17 straight wins. They remember him from getting knocked out in record time.
