In my opinion, the Detroit Lions 2020 draft class was probably the best of my lifetime, I was born in 81′. We can debate and of course this is a wayyyy early prediction. The first 2 picks are layups this year for the Lions.

Jeff Okudah:

A no brainer at the #3 spot. Especially after unloading “twitter fingers” Darius Slay after the 2019 season. Okudah put up 34 tackles, 9 passes defensed, and 3 interceptions in 2019 for Ohio State. He was the unanimous 2019 College Football All-America Team, and named a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. My only disappointment with this pick is that I felt we could have moved down and added value. Make no mistake, this was the right pick. Okudah will be mentioned later on a player I am IN LOVE WITH!

D’andre Swift:

The fact that we could take him meant we should take him. Before the draft, it didn’t even occur to me that Swift could fall to the Lions in the second round. If I did think it could happen, I would have assumed we would have passed for a random TE or something. The Lions did the right thing and got the right guy. Swift was a BEAST at Georgia (Helps that Stafford will show him more love too). It also helps that Swift grew up loving Barry Sanders. There aren’t too many people that dream of playing in Honolulu Blue.

Quintez Cephus:

While the first 2 were great picks that I think will have an immediate impact on the Lions. The pick that I’m BEYOND in love with is our fifth round pick, Quintez Cephus. Admittedly, I drafted him in my fantasy keeper dynasty league. During the quarantine I went Good Will Hunting studying for this year’s dynasty draft. One guy that impressed me in every piece of film I watched was Cephus. He is a large WR, very strong, putting up 23 reps at the combine.. He’s not very fast, running a 4.7, but covers the ground he needs to. His hands are remarkable. The anti Eric Ebron, he has velcro paws. He had countless TD’s jumping over people at Wisconsin.

If you can put up big receiving numbers in that run heavy offense you are special. The major reason Cephus fell so far in the draft is that he had legal issues. He was accused of sexual assault by two women. Do some research on this case and you will see it should have never even been looked at. He beat it in court and the jury apologized to him. That’s how outrageous it was. After that accusation he was suspended. Only to be reinstated but it was too late, the damage was done.

Summary:

Let’s not dwell on the past. Quintez is a Lion now and we got a bargain! Don’t believe me? Ask our 1st round pick, Jeff Okudah: “Quintez Cephus from Wisconsin, I think he’s the best receiver I went against. It doesn’t matter what his 40 time was. Football is played in between the lines and he’s a technician, someone that I changed my plan up for every single week”. With Marvin Jones set to come off the book after this season I would expect Quintez to be a MAJOR player for the Lions moving forward. Not only is that great for Detroit, but great for my fantasy team too! Finding value like this in the 5th round is how you are able to sustain talent and win championships. Quintez is one to watch come training camp and beyond 2020.
