Khabib Retires, Whittaker Dominates Cannonier, and Walt Harris Suffers Another Loss

UFC 254 was set up to be one of the best cards of the year, and boy did it deliver. There’s so many questions that need to be answered from the results from UFC 254, but one thing is for sure is that Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. After holding strong through the first round, Khabib choked Gaethje in the second round to improve his record to 29-0. After the fight, Khabib announced his retirement after admitting that after talking to his mother he knew it was time to hang up the gloves. Not only dealing with the loss of his father, but Khabib admitted after the fight that he suffered two broken toes and a broken foot bone during training three weeks ago. Khabib is the definition of perseverance and his legacy will be remembered forever.

Another dominating performance was Robert Whittaker who defeated Jared Cannonier via unanimous decision. The win was a huge victory for Whittaker and possibly puts him back in the title shot picture at Middleweight. Cannonier used strong leg kicks to keep Whittaker at bay, but it wasn’t enough. Whittaker pushing the pace and earned not only a knock down, but also the W. It will be interesting to see what happens next for Whittaker,. It’s great to see The Reaper earn a big win in his MMA career.

Walt Harris suffered his second loss in a row, this time due to a brutal kick to the sternum which ended the fight in the second round. Alexander Volkov looked great after suffering a loss to Curtis Blaydes in June. Harris is now 1-2 in his last three fights and holds a record of 13-9. I want to see Harris fight the best of the best, but it’s tough to see him lose two in a row. The loss to Alistair Overeem was rough, and losing to Volkov doesn’t help his career trajectory either. Putting Harris up against someone in the top 15 would probably be the next move.
