Marvin Jones is returning to the Detroit Lions after signing a one-year, $3 million contract on Wednesday, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. The deal could be worth up to $5 million if Jones meets certain performance incentives.
Back to Where He Shined
Jones, a 2012 fifth-round pick, previously played for the Lions between 2016 and 2020, where he had a standout year in 2017. That season, he caught 61 passes for 1,101 yards and scored nine touchdowns.
Lions’ Wide Receiver Room
As Jones returns to Detroit, he’s expected to take on the role of the No. 3 wideout, supporting Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. The Lions may continue to bolster their pass-catching depth, but with Josh Reynolds occupying the 4th WR spot, this move may be the last.
Jones’ NFL Career So Far
Before his time with the Lions and Jaguars, Jones spent his first four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. Throughout his 145-game career, he has made 114 starts, securing 542 catches for 7,386 yards and an impressive 73 touchdowns.
The wide receiver’s 2022 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars was underwhelming, as he recorded only 46 receptions for 529 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games. This marked his least productive healthy season since his rookie year.
Nonetheless, Detroit Lions fans should be ecstatic with the announcement that Marvin Jones will be rocking the Honolulu Blue in 2023.
