The UFC takes place in Perth, Australia, this weekend for UFC 284. This is the first time the UFC has hosted an event in Perth since February of 2018. The main event includes the featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski, and the lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev.
Jimmy Crute #12 vs Alonzo Menifield
The main card kicks off with a light heavyweight bout between Jimmy Crute and Alonzo Menifield.
Jimmy Crute has a record of 12-3 and is coming off a two-fight losing streak. The last time he fought in the octagon was in December 2021, when he lost to Jamahal Hill. Jimmy has had some impressive victories since joining the UFC in 2018 and is looking to end his losing streak.
On the other hand, Alonzo is on a two-fight winning streak and is looking to enter the top 15 ranks at light heavyweight. His most recent win was in October 2022, when he won by KO/TKO in the first round.
Justin Tafa vs Parker Porter
The two unranked heavyweights will face off in the second fight of the main card.
Justin Tafa has a record of 5-3 and has not fought since 2021, when he won by KO in the first round. Justin was really active in 2021 but not so much in 2022. He is looking to add another impressive KO to his short resume.
Parker Porter entered the UFC in 2020 and has won three of his five fights. Parker’s last fight was in May 2022 against Jailton Almeida, where he lost in the first round. A victory over Tafa could propel him into the top 25 heavyweights in the world.

Jack Della Maddalena vs Randy Brown
The third fight of the night will include welterweights Jack Della Maddalena and Randy Brown. The two fighters are electrifying and have impressive resumes.
Randy Brown has won six of his last seven fights and is currently on a four-fight winning streak. He has been in the UFC since 2016 and has an impressive record of 16-4. The Jamaican native is looking to put on a show to increase his chances of entering the welterweight rankings.
Jack Della Maddalena is currently 13-2 and undefeated since joining the UFC in 2019. Three of his four wins in the UFC have come by KO or TKO in the first round. His most recent fight was in November of 2022, and he is planning on making a statement by beating Randy Brown.
Yair Rodriguez #2 vs Josh Emmett #5
The co-main event for UFC 284 includes featherweights Yair Rodriguez and Josh Emmett. These two will be fighting for the interim featherweight title while the current champion, Alexander Volkanovski, fights to become a double champion.
Yair Rodriguez is one of the most exciting and skilled fighters in the UFC. He has won over fighters such as Brian Ortega, Chan Sung Jung, Dan Hooker, and BJ Penn. Yair is coming off a win over Brian Ortega and is looking to become the interim champion.
Josh Emmett is also a veteran in the UFC and is on a five-fight winning streak. Emmett is known for his incredible power and is looking to keep his winning streak alive by defeating Yair Rodriguez.

Islam Makhachev #C vs Alexander Volkanovski #C
The lightweight championship and the title of “best pound-for-pound fighter” are on the line in the main event of UFC 284.
Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski is moving up to the 155-pound lightweight division to fight Islam Makhachev.
Volkanovski is one of the best fighters in the UFC and has a record of 25-1 with no losses in the UFC. Also, he has beaten Max Holloway three times, Brian Ortega, Jose Aldo, Chad Mendes, etc. He is currently the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC and has accepted a huge challenge by facing Islam. Volkanovski is looking to become the fifth double champion in UFC history. An upset win over Islam Makhachev could solidify him as one of the greatest fighters of all time.
Islam Makhachev is 23-1 and currently one of the most dominant champions in the UFC. Islam is ranked #2 on the pound-for-pound list and is expected to become number one with a win over Volkanovski. This Saturday will be the first time Islam defends his belt since defeating former champion Charles Oliveira. Islam is the prodigy and student of Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov. Khabib and Islam share the same wrestling style, which will play a huge part in the fight versus Volkanovski.
