I sat down with Red Wings legend and 4x time Stanley Cup Winner Darren McCarty to discuss the latest rumors surrounding Dylan Larkin and his extension. Darren had this to say when addressing the rumors and his confidence in Steve Yzerman.

“When we talk about the hashtag Yzerplan, you’re all in or not. So first of all, anything you’re hearing that doesn’t come out of Steve Yzerman’s mouth himself, or if I didn’t hear from Kris Draper or somebody next to him, I don’t put too much stock in it. Although the term seems to be agreed upon, which I think it’s going to be a big deal.

Now that we’re shooting. It makes sense that Detroit’s offering eight million. It makes sense that he’s asking nine and a half. And it makes sense that there’s still negotiating to be done. There’s been trade rumors going around, but I don’t put anything much into those either. At the end of the day, it is Steve Yzerman’s plan, and Dylan Larkin will be compensated as the captain accordingly.

That’s all I really have to say about it, I haven’t put much stock in it… So somebody telling me he heard, this or that unless Steve Yzerman, the man himself, which he will come out eventually, tell you. Not only with Larkin, but Tyler Bertuzzi as well, just how it’s transparent. Obviously you want to get it done before the trade deadline, but I’m not worried. The Red Wings have been and always will be in good hands with Stevie.”
