Willi Castro helps the Detroit Tigers win two in a row for the first time since April 21-April 23rd.
Willi Castro and Eric Haase hit first pitch home runs and Miguel Cabrera went 2-for-3 in the 3-0 Detroit Tigers win on Star Wars Night down at Comerica Park. With those two hits, he now has 3,018 for his career. Wily Peralta gets the win in relief of Michael Pineda, who left the game in the second inning after he got hit with a line drive. Gregory Soto picked up his fifth save of the season.
Castro continues to make his case to stay in the lineup. He got the scoring in the 2nd inning after hitting a sac fly to score Jonathan Schoop, who laced a double to left and advanced on an error by left-fielder Ryan McKenna. Later, in the 7th, Castro then homered to add his second RBI of the day. He is now 9 for his last 20 at-bats.
Haase chose the right time to hit his second home run of the season and his first since Opening Day against the white Sox when he went deep in the 5th.
Miguel Cabrera is strong with the force in the month of May
Miguel Cabrera in this homestand continues to be red-hot. He is now 9-for-23 against Oakland and Baltimore with a pair of doubles, a home run and an OPS of .950. With all the offense struggles at the top of the order, Cabrera has been a steady force for the entire month of May.
The bullpen put together 7.2 innings of four hit ball and struck out six. Jason Foley, just up from Toledo, made his first appearance in May. He pitched two innings of relief, striking out one and allowing a pair of hits.
Detroit, who collects just their second series win of the season, goes for their first sweep on Sunday at 1:40. Tarik Skubal takes the mound for the Tigers. Right-hander Tyler Wells (1-2 3.75 ERA) will be on the mound for Baltimore.
