Marvin Bagley and the Detroit Pistons agreed on a new three-year $37 million contract. While the yearly value might make some fans think a bout his injury history, Bagley proved to be a valuable part of this team. Bagley made an immediate impact when traded to the Pistons, giving Cade Cunningham a pick and roll, rim running lob threat.
The value of the contract is on par with what Bagley’s free agency projection was via Rod Beard (Detroit News). Marvin Bagley proved to be his best playing the power forward position, and a bench role may be wise to manage his minutes and reduce injury risk. Bagley may prove viable as the teams starting power forward, but there’s still a lot of free agency left.
For one Detroit Piston in particular though, it could spell the end. Kelly Olynyk also plays power forward, makes similar amount yearly and is 8 years older than Bagley.
As rumors persist, don’t be surprised to see Kelly Olynyk wearing a different jersey soon.
