The Champions League group stage draw was held today. We can look forward to an eventful and thrilling group stage. We’ll evaluate each group and predict which two teams will qualify for the knockout rounds.
Group A
- Bayern
- Atlético Madrid
- Salzburg
- Lokomotiv Moskva
Holders Bayern Munich will face Atletico Madrid twice in what we expect to be a group dominated by the German and Spanish sides. This should be a very straight forward draw for both teams.
1st Place: Bayern | 2nd Place: Atlético Madrid
Group B
- Real Madrid
- Shakhtar Donetsk
- Inter Milan
- Mönchengladbach
An interesting group to say the least, but there can only be two that advance. We have Inter Milan winning this group pretty easily, with Real Madrid struggling but finishing second.
1st Place: Inter Milan | 2nd Place: Real Madrid
Group C
- Porto
- Manchester City
- Olympiacos
- Marseille
City will be happy with this draw, they’ll be able to secure qualification after their fourth game. 2nd place is up for grabs from the remaining three teams, but we have Olympiacos making it through.
1st Place: Manchester City | 2nd Place: Olympiacos
Group D
- Liverpool
- Ajax
- Atalanta
- Midtjylland
This is one of the easier groups to predict who is coming out. Liverpool and Atalanta will dominate their opposition in the group, so 1st place will likely be decided by Goal Difference if the two are to tie on points.
1st Place: Liverpool | 2nd Place: Atalanta
Group E
- Sevilla
- Chelsea
- Krasnodar
- Rennes
Another straight-forward group, Chelsea and Sevilla should be advancing without any issues. Having said that, Sevilla could push for the first place finish, but Chelsea’s depth is world-class so we give Frank Lampard the edge in this group.
1st Place: Chelsea | 2nd Place: Sevilla
Group F
- Zenit
- Dortmund
- Lazio
- Club Brugge
Erling Haaland should be able to continue his prolific goal-scoring form in the Champions League with a friendly group stage draw. Haaland is our favorite for the Golden Boot, with Dortmund making a serious push for the Semi-Finals. Lazio is the second best team in this group, and that’s where we have them finishing.
1st Place: Dortmund | 2nd Place: Lazio
Group G
- Juventus
- Barcelona
- Dynamo Kyiv
- Ferencváros
The group with the most exciting storylines, Group G features Juventus and Barcelona. More importantly, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. With Messi’s future unknown, this may be the last time we see these two legends play against each other. Juventus has a better manager and squad, they should place first easily with Barcelona coming in second comfortably.
1st Place: Juventus | 2nd Place: Barcelona
Group H
- Paris
- Manchester United
- Leipzig
- İstanbul Başakşehir
We can label this as the “group of death” considering most of the other groups are very straight forward. Although Manchester United should be favorites to finish second in the group, we have them falling out and finishing third. Paris will look to recover from a Champions League Final loss to Champions Bayern Munich. Is this the year the Paris project finally ends with a Champions League trophy.
1st Place: Paris | 2nd Place: Leipzig
