The Detroit Pistons created their own bubble. And as much fun as it is to think about Sekou Doumbouya growing in an actual bubble. He really has shown growth in the Pistons Basketball Bubble.
Detroit Pistons’ Head Coach Dwane Casey has had high praise for Sekou Doumbouya during the bubble. The 2nd year player is looking to make massive strides this season. His game looked good early in his rookie year butt hen the NBA adjusted to his style and started to slow Sekou down. He has been working on improving all aspects of his game this summer/fall/offseason.
Here is what Dwane Casey had to say about his up and coming star.
“This is a development phase for him is to be able to bring the ball down, not pick and rolls, but working in a transition game getting the rebound and busting out with it.”
You also like where his heads out coming into this season. Sometimes 2nd year players get a little lazy. Andre Drummond is a great example of all the talent in the world but basketball wasn’t his main focus. Casey sees a different look in Doumbouya eyes:
“His seriousness, his approach has really improved. His body is in excellent condition. So you know, he’s been one of the bright spots.”
Not only has his approach been more serious but he is also expanding his game.
“He’s going to have some versatility for us, especially the way the league is going if we do go small in that situation. I was really pleased with the way he adapted. That’s the way to go to be a quarterback in the middle of the zone, you have to be a radar. He fits the bill in that position.”
Overall, I think we can expect a great things out of Sekou in year 2. I love Casey’s commitment to development of players. Troy Weaver also has the team trending up. Looking forward to seeing Sekou play next year in the Red, White and Blue.
