Robert Sarver uses the N-Word. This is what we know after a months-long investigation. The NBA gave Sarver a punishment of 1 year suspension and a fine. That has not sat well with players, media and now Suns Minority Ownership is speaking out.
Jahm Najafi is the 2nd largest chare holder for the Phoenix Suns. On Thursday he sent a letter to his entire staff.
“Similar conduct by any CEO, executive director, president, teacher, coach, or any other position of leadership would warrant immediate termination.”
Najafi goes on to write, “The fact that Robert Sarver ‘owns’ the team does not give him a license to treat others differently than any other leader. The fact that anyone would find him fit to lead because of this ‘ownership’ position is forgetting that NBA teams belong to the communities they serve.”
He wrote, “I cannot in good judgment sit back and allow our children and future generations of fans to think that this behavior is tolerated because of wealth and privilege. Therefore, in accordance with my commitment to helping eradicate any form of racism, sexism and bias, as Vice Chairman of the Phoenix Suns, I am calling for the resignation of Robert Sarver.”
Where there is smoke, there is fire. It looks as if things are heating up around Sarver. Recovering from this is probably out of the question. Time will tell, but I would expect a resignation soon.Photo: © Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports
