The Detroit Lions are reported to be one of the main teams involved in trading with the Jacksonville Jaguars for Yannick Ngakoue
Reports are coming out of ESPN that the Detroit Lions are interested in trading for Jackosnville Jaguars DT Yannick Ngaloue.
ESPN QUOTE
“General Manager Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia are dealing with major win-now pressure in an unpredictable year and tough division. Adding Ngakoue to the pass rush would be the capper on an off-season that saw a significant overhaul on a defense that is dealing with some questions on the back end.”
Yannick Ngakoue
Ngakoue is a big guy. Standing 6’2” and around 250 he would certainly help plug up the middle. But once again it would be an off season where we are paying a lot for a defensive player. Yannick would eat up about $18 million in cap space if traded to the Lions. After paying Trey Flowers $90 Million over 5 last year. That’s a hefty number to add to your defense.
The 25 year old has all the talent in the world. In his first 4 seasons in the NFL he had 37.5 sacks, 85 QB hits, 42 tackles for loss and 14 forced fumbles. I think we could have used all of that last year. The Lions were one of the worst in the league at pressuring the QB. Which results in QB’s being able to pick a part defenses. So getting Yannick would improve the front and back end of the D.
If the attitude is win NOW then this is a guy you go out and get. Remember the last time the Lions have a great D Line? We had the #2 Defense in the league and went to the playoffs! Granted we lost tot eh Cowboys that year. Some would say a questionable pass interference cost us that game. I say don’t leave it in the hands of the officials.
