It’s not every day you find an NFL player that’s excited to hang out with elementary/middle schoolers. However, that is exactly what you get with Detroit Lions’ fullback Jason Cabinda each and every week. This week, the excitement came from taking Davison Elementary Middle School students on a field trip to Dave & Busters.
Cabinda has been ecstatic about this trip for weeks. He was so delighted to reward these students for their hard work, attendance, and dedication to being better every day. And he did so by treating them to a day of games, food, and fun away from the classroom.
The students were thrilled when they walked through the doors eager to get started playing. Cabinda handed them all game cards that were fully loaded so they could play whatever games they wanted to play. Several of them even walked away with prizes from the fan-favorite claw machine.
Cabinda was joined by a few other players in Scott Daly, Tim Boyle, and Chris Board to really make the experience memorable for these kids. Each and every one of them interacted with the students and challenged them to different games. The smiles on the kids’ faces could be seen from the moon.
The fullback is no stranger to the students at Davison Elementary Middle School. He visits them frequently, whether it’s in person or via zoom, and lends a hand to make sure they feel seen, heard, and loved. Cabinda shares stories, donates books, reads to students, mentors students, and communicates to them the importance of getting a good education. He says it’s important to be present and support these students on a daily basis.
“I wanted to do this because I believe it’s important to highlight our kids and those that are working hard and being diligent and upholding that golden standard! Nobody can really quantify the impact that COVID has had on our kids these past few years so we need to support them, and be there for them, and continue to encourage them to excel! We can all have a helping hand in guiding our kids who will be our future!”
