There’s officially 6 days until the first Detroit Lions game of the 2022 regular season. Last week took a toll on both players and coaches both mentally and physically. Today, Dan Campbell walked into the Press Conference room giddy and riddled with excitement. You could tell he was glad last week was over, and he is ready to grind with the team he and Brad Holmes chose.
Campbell double down on their revised roster this morning saying “I feel like we have the right guys. It’s the right 53.” He states “the season is upon us now. We’ve got our – we have our players, we have our crew, we have the brotherhood if you will.” He later added “…our strength is really exactly that. It’s the 53 plus that 16-man practice squad.”
Detroit Lions Expectations Rise
There’s no doubt the coaching staff and the players all have a different feeling about this year that’s much better than last year. Amon-Ra St. Brown emphasized that the difference this year is the energy, saying “You can feel it when you’re out there, you can feel it as a team, whether we’re in the weight room, whether we’re in the team meeting room, at our position drills, whatever we’re doing. It’s a different energy than it was last year.”
Campbell has no doubt this team has started their engines for the regular season. While a decision hasn’t been made on who will be calling the plays yet, the team is ready to go. He says, “…you can just see it. I felt all their eyes, and they’re ready to go. They’re ready to go and that’s a good thing.”
Lions Week 1 Matchup
In week 1 of the regular season the Detroit Lions will take on the Philadelphia Eagles. A highly anticipated game after the massacre they deployed on the Lions last year. Dan Campbell referenced that loss as “embarrassing.” He added, “They let us have it, they rubbed our nose in it, and that’s – listen man, they came in and did everything that they wanted to do they did to us x10. So, I think we’ve acknowledged that and we understand that that’s what they’re coming back for. If I’m them, I’m doing the same thing.” Amon-Ra St. Brown also spoke on that game saying it was one the team will not forget.
The team re-signed quarterback Tim Boyle to the practice squad this morning.
