Detroit Piston players Cade Cunningham and Luka Garza were named by the media to the All-Summer League Second Team. Both players had stellar performances in Summer League.
Cunningham’s Performance
Cade Cunningham proved why the Pistons selected him as the number one pick. Cunningham kept improving each game during Summer League. Cunningham’s best performance came against the New York Knicks. He dropped 24 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Also, he made seven three-point shots in that game as well. He ended up averaging 18.67 points, 5.67 rebounds, 2.33 assist, 1.67 steals, and 1.33 blocks per game in Summer League.
Not only were his performances incredible. But his leadership and communication skills were the most memorable part. Cunningham was always talking to his teammates on and off the floor. He would give his teammates advice on the court. As well as cracking a joke or cheering on his teammates on the bench. Cunningham has proven to be the leader of the team even at a young age.
Garza’s Performance
Luka Garza has been the most talked about player in the Pistons community outside of Cade Cunningham. Garza was selected in the second round in the draft and has proven all of the haters wrong. In Summer League, he made a big impression for the Pistons. He averaged 20 points, 9.60 rebounds, and 1 block per game.
On Monday, the Pistons signed Garza to a two-way contract. He will end up battling Jahlil Okafor for one of the spots on the final roster. Next season, I could see the Pistons sending Garza back and forth between the Pistons and the Motor City Cruise. The Cruise is the Piston’s new G-League team. The Cruise will be playing at the brand new Wayne State Basketball Arena.
The Pistons now have some time off as training camp does not start until September 28th.
