Bol Bol’s trade to the Detroit Pistons fell through Thursday Morning according to Mike Singer of the Denver Post. Detroit will return the polarizing prospect to the Denver Nuggets after failing to pass his physical with the team.
Although the reported reasons are not available at this time, the doctor who conducted the physical clearly did not feel he looked ready to play NBA basketball. Voiding of this trade can turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Detroit. He has struggled to see consistent minutes throughout his career due in part to his injury history.
Bol Bol’s Injury History
Bol has been dealing with the ramifications of an uncommon stress fracture in his rookie year of his career. When he has been able to see the court, he has impressed with his ability to shoot the ball. He can also make plays for his teammates in a way that is by no means common with his size.
Bol has only appeared in 14 games for 5 minutes per game in Denver, averaging 2.4 points per game. He certainly would’ve been given more of an opportunity to play in Detroit. This is definitely a setback in his career that could see him going down to the G League level for his future.
The Future
Troy Weaver is definitely not done with making moves. Troy will have McGruder in talks in trades that could also include the likes of Jerami Grant and Josh Jackson. With the trade deadline a month away, the Pistons front office will certainly look to improve their size. The next move certainly will not be as high of a risk as Bol Bol.
