According to multiple reports, All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown will sign a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Brown will likely make his Bucs debut during Week 9. He’s currently finishing an eight-game suspension for multiple violations of the NFL’s personal-conduct policy.
This deal will also reunite Brown with quarterback Tom Brady. Brady was an avid supporter of Brown during their brief stint a teammates last season with the New England Patriots. Both players built a strong connection with one another on and off the field during that time. So it is safe to surmise that was a factor in Brown’s signing.
Brown’s arrival in Tampa Bay gives head coach Bruce Arians another weapon to use in an already loaded offense. However, it’s quite shocking he’s he will be at Arians’ disposal to begin with. Earlier this March, he stated that Brown was “not a fit” for their team. With Mike Evans, Chris Goodwin, and and Scotty Miller dealing with injuries, Arians obviously had a change of heart. It’s a good thing too because Brown can provide immediate help.
The signing of AB signals that the Bucs are looking to make a Super Bowl run now, and not later. He is also the latest addition of the team’s string of free agent signings. This past offseason, they poached Tom Brady from New England, signing him to a two-year deal. Soon after, Brady’s favorite target Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement to sign with the Bucs as well.
Brown’s character has been under the microscope. And rightfully so.
With unceremonious exits from the Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders, and Patriots, the verdict is out whether can prove to not be a distraction. While that remains to be seen, one thing is for sure.
