Anthony Lynn is a man of high-character, and class. After Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell demoted him during this past season, Lynn could easily have had sour grapes. Especially since the Lions fired him after only one season as the offensive coordinator.

However, that’s not the case. During an appearance on Woodward Sports’, The Bottom Line (TBL), Lynn discussed his time with the Lions. And during his near half-hour interview, he had high praise for his former employers.

At the top of his interview, Sam “Stick” Day asked Lynn how the Lions managed to keep the locker room together, despite the year of adversity the team faced. That’s when Lynn gave Campbell his flowers.

“Great leadership. I can tell you that,” said Lynn. “Dan Campbell did a hell of a job creating a culture. I know the record didn’t show it, but the foundation is being laid for future success right in Detroit.”

“It was outstanding leadership. Those young men showed up every single day to work and get better. But I feel like they got better as the year went on. We had a long ways to go but I feel like we made some improvements.

The Lions started the first half of the 2021 NFL season losing their first eight games. At that point, Campbell removed Lynn’s duties as the primary play-caller on offense. Despite that, Lynn was the consummate professional. There were no real rumblings of a rift due to his demotion.

After Dan Campbell took over play-calling duties, the Lions finished the season winning their last three home games, and tying the Steelers in Pittsburgh. TBL co-host, Braylon Edwards, asked Lynn was the team’s success at season’s end due to the young players catching on and listening to the coaches.

Lynn, on the other hand, agreed, but had a slightly different perspective.

“No doubt about it, but you also saw Taylor Decker come back at left tackle. He missed the first nine games,” said Lynn. “Then you saw Josh Reynolds. That was a big time acquisition. We got him about Week 9, Week 10. Those guys made a heck of a difference.”

“But guys like Saint [Amon-Ra St. Brown], those guys were coming along the whole time, and just getting better…once they got a little more seasoned, it was clicking a little bit in the second half of the season I felt like.”

One thing that stood out in particular was the remarks by Anthony Lynn on Jared Goff. Around Week 11, reports surfaced that there was a rift between Goff and his former offensive coordinator. While both, including Campbell, dispelled the rumors, they were there. When asked if he feels Goff could be the Lions long term solution at starting quarterback, Lynn says he can.

“I think you look at Jared Goff’s track record, you know, when he was with Los Angeles [Rams],” said Lynn. “He was the quarterback of that team, and they went to the Super Bowl. They can absolutely win with Jared Goff.”

Lynn also didn’t shy away from offering praise for the Detroit Lions’ ownership, which is continually the subject of much scrutiny.

“I know people keep saying, ‘It’s the same old, same old’, but when I got here, I was so impressed with this ownership,” said Lynn. “Sheila [Ford Hamp] is doing a heck of a job giving the Lions everything they need to be successful. And I don believe Dan and A.G, they’re laying the foundation right now for future success here, and I fully expect that.”
