It’s the finally draft day! Fans have been waiting for this day for a long time. Today, we see dreams come true for all of these young prospects. For the final time in 2021, here is my final mock draft for the 2021 NBA Draft.
1. Detroit Pistons- Cade Cunningham
PG/SG – Oklahoma State – 19 Years Old- 6’8″
Cade Cunningham is the clear number one pick for the Pistons. Cunningham’s ability to play on and off the ball is exactly what the Pistons need. Also, Cunningham is the best playmaker in the Draft, and that is something that Detroit needs. The Pistons will have a bright future with Cunningham joining alongside Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart, and Killian Hayes.
2. Houston Rockets- Jalen Green
SG- G-League Ignite- 19 Years Old- 6’5″
Jalen Green is looking like he will end up being a Houston Rocket. Green is the most athletic player coming out of this year’s draft. He draws comparisons to Zach Lavine due to his athleticism to drive down the paint and his high flying dunks.
3. Cleveland Cavaliers- Evan Mobley
C- USC- 19 Years Old- 7’0″
The Cavs were offered to move down in the draft. The Thunder offered the Cavs SGA and the 6th pick for the 3rd pick. The Cavs ultimately rejected the trade.
Suppose the Cavs decided to stay with the 3rd pick, where I expect them to do. Then I see Cavs taking Evan Mobley. The Cavs need a big man who can be an x-factor at rim-protecting and rebounds. Mobley brings not only a strong presence on the defense side of the ball but is explosive at the offensive end as well.
4. Toronto Raptors- Jalen Suggs
PG/SG- Gonzaga- 19 Years Old- 6’4″
The Raptors have been in multiple trade rumors this past week. As reported by Dale Zanine of USA Today, the Raptors have been looking at trading for a star and mainly 76ers guard Ben Simmons. Toronto is looking to find their next superstar before the Draft. Last season, the Raptors missed the playoffs and wanted to return to competitors in the Eastern Conference.
Jalen Suggs is the guy for the Raptors. Suppose the Raptors decided not to trade their fourth pick in the draft. Suggs is known to be one of the most clutch players in all of college basketball last season. Especially in the National Semi-Final, where he helped lead Gonzaga to the National Championship.
5. Orlando Magic- Scottie Barnes
SF/PF- Florida State- 19 Years Old- 6’9″
Scottie Barnes to the Magic is a great fit! Barnes’s ability to defend and score down on a transition is something that the Magic need. He draws comparisons to Draymond Green due to his size and ability to support at an elite level. Barnes could end up being a Defense Player of the Year in the future.
6. OKC Thunder- James Bouknight
SG- UConn- 20 years old- 6’5″
The Thunder have been in multiple trade rumors this past week. The team is trying to move up into the top 4 of the draft. The Thunder have contacted both the Cavs and Pistons to trade up, but both groups ultimately rejected the offers. The Thunder will have to give up a considerable amount of picks or a key player like SGA to get into the top 4.
While the Thunder are in trade rumors, there have been multiple reports that the franchise is leading to draft Bouknight. Bouknight’s name has jumped in the ranks these past few weeks leading up to the draft. Scouts are relating Bouknight’s style of play to Damian Lillard.
7. Golden State Warriors- Jonathan Kuminga
SF/PF- G-League Ignite- 19 years old- 6’8″
Last week, the Warriors were looking at trading the 7th pick. Blank reported that the Warriors were interested in getting Myles Turner in exchange for their seventh pick and other assets. The Warriors are looking for another star to pair with Curry, Green, and Thompson to help them get back to championship contenders. The Warriors last in the postseason in 2019 and want to get back into the playoffs next season.
8. Orlando Magic- Davion Mitchell
PG- Baylor-22 Years Old- 6’2″
Davion Mitchell to the Magic just feels right. The Magic is in a complete rebuild and is looking to add pieces during the draft. The Magic also looked into moving up into the draft.
9. Sacramento Kings- Alperen Sengun
Center- Turkey- 18 years old-6’10”
The Sacramento Kings are looking at possibly making a move on draft night. The Kings are looking to bring Kyle Kuzma from the Lakers for Buddy Hield. If the Kings keep their pick, it seems like the team will take Alperen Sengun. Sengun is the most complete international player coming out of this draft.
His primary component is his ability to bully opponents down in the paint. Sengun can score down in the paint and grab rebounds efficiently. He averaged 67.9% in 2-point range and 9.4 rebounds per game last in the Turkish league. He could end being a steal in the top 10.
10. Memphis Grizzlies- Moses Moody
SG- Arkansas- 19 Years old- 6’4″
The Memphis Grizzlies made a big-time trade this week with the New Orleans Pelicans and moved into the top 10. The Grizzlies received Steven Adams, Eric Bledsoe, 2021 picks Nos. 10 and 40, and a protected 2022 first-round pick via the Lakers. The Pelicans announced Memphis is finalizing a trade to send Jonas Valanciunas and 2021 Nos. 17 and 51 picks.
With the Grizzlies now sitting at number 10, I see them drafting Moses Moody. Moody is one of the best 3-pointers in this year’s draft. Not only can Moody shoot the ball, but he is also an intimidating defender.
