The Detroit Lions continue to receive universal praise for selecting Penei Sewell. The Lions drafted Sewell with the 7th overall pick in this year’s draft. And they wasted no time doing. The Lions had their eyes set on the coveted offensive lineman. Part of the fanbase wanted a more “sexy” pick. Despite that, the franchise thrilled one of its former players, TJ Lang, with the selection.
Lang appeared on The Morning Woodard Show on Friday to share his thoughts of the Lions selecting Sewell.
“I think it’s pretty unanimous around the city of Detroit today. It’s a home run,” said Lang. “It’s a home run anytime you get a generational talent like that that falls to you at No.7.”
“Look, if there were, you know, a couple of these quarterbacks decided to go back for their senior years, I mean, Penei Sewell probably would’ve been the No.1 pick.”
Lang didn’t stop there with his gushing praise for Sewell either.
“I almost had the same reaction that Brad Holmes had,” said Lang.
“You know, I wanted to start go working out, [and] get back into shape because I wanna go play next to that kid. He’s gonna be a special player for a long time.”
That’s some strong praise from Lang. And it’s safe to surmise he knows a thing or two about being an offensive lineman. Before his stint with the Lions, Lang was a Super Bowl champion and two-time Pro Bowler with the Green Bay Packers.
The offensive line is currently the Lions’ strongest unit. By selecting Sewell, they continue to build on that in a significant way. NFL.com’s Chad Reuter gave the Lions an A+ for selecting Sewell with the 7th overall pick.
