While D’Andre Swift and Bo Scarbough were held out of practice this week Jonathan Williams took advantage.
I always think sports are a lot like life. Here is another example, Jonathan Williams was signed last week by the Detroit Lions. The Lions have a crowded backfield. Kerryon Johnson and D’andre Swift are secured as the 1-2 punch. Bo Scarbough had a solid season last year and looked to be the back up. Plus, the Lions just drafted Jason Huntley in the 2020 NFL Draft.
One of my favorite sayings is “Bench players need to stay ready for when their number is called.”That’s is what you should do in Football and in life. Just stay ready for your next opportunity. Because if it comes and you are slacking because you think you’re on the bench, you’ve already lost the battle. With that being said, Williams came to camp prepared.
Matt Patrica on WIlliams:
“He’s done a great job. He came in, really unbelievable professional. Guy who just dove right into the playbook and really tried to focus into his job. We do have some guys that have played college football with him, so we had a little bit of a background research there as far as the type of guy he is. He’s a great guy, work hard, just wants to go in and do anything he can to help the team. Just kind of was a good fit for us and we wanted to bring him in and take a look. But certainly from a skill set level, he’s a big back, he can get downhill but also has some good quickness. We just thought it would be a good opportunity for us to take a look at him.”
Future With Detroit Lions
Williams had a couple of 100 yard rushing games last season. Something The Lions (and its fans) want to have with more consistency.
I honesty don’t see him leap frogging Swift and Johnson for the 1 or 2 spot. However, the 3rd RB sport is up for grabs. After you get that you are just one injury away from being THE GUY. That is why it’s important to stay ready. In football and in life.
