When it comes to the coaching search for the Detroit Lions, many names come up in conversation. Marvin Lewis wasn’t one of them until now.

Marvin Lewis is not a name that the Detroit Lions fans will want to hear. Especially regarding the team’s head coach search. 

Nonetheless, here we are.

According to an NFL Network report, the Lions interviewed Lewis on Thursday for the head coach position. Lewis, 62, coached the Cincinnati Bengals for 15 seasons, tallying a 131-122-3 record. In addition to that, the Bengals were 0-7 in the postseason under Lewis’ tenure. 

The report states that Robert Saleh (49ers), Bienemy (Chiefs) , Dan Campbell (Saints), and Arthur Smith (Titans) are also potential targets. 

The Lions interviewing Lewis for the position is a head-scratcher. 

For starters, take the seven postseason berths the Bengals had during his tenure. They not only went winless, but they were never better than a wildcard team. Along with that, Lewis’s last three seasons with the Bengals was a combined record of 19-28-1. Each of those was a single-digit win season.

Interviewing Lewis doesn’t mean that the Lions will offer him the position. However, the mere act alone is going in the opposite direction of what Sheila Ford-Hamp said the team would.

Lewis currently serves as the co-defensive coordinator at Arizona State University under Herm Edwards.
