In 2021, Michigan football went 12-2 and defeated Ohio State at home. In 2022, Michigan went 13-1 and defeated Ohio State at Ohio State. However, one similarity between those two seasons is that they both ended in a CFB semifinal loss. Heading into the 2023 season, this Michigan team looks as poised as ever to become national champions. With many returning starters and the number one recruiting class in the nation, the time to win is now. With players getting increased roles and recruits pouring in, expectations are as high as ever for Jim Harbaugh

What has happened…

Many fans are obviously anticipating the running back room that features Blake Corum and Don Edwards. Corum amassed 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns before injuring his leg against Illinois in week 11. In the absence of Corum, Don Edwards came in and rushed for 216 yards and two touchdowns against Ohio State the week after. Although they may be the best RB duo in the nation, there are many other players who will look to step up. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy will have no shortage of weapons on this offense. WRs Cornelius Johnson and Darius Clemons will have statement years and TE Colston Loveland looks to build on his improved 2022 season. Incoming is also an underwhelming 2023 recruiting class which was ranked 17th in the nation.

What will happen?

Although it is very exciting to think about the 2023 season, what the 2024 season holds is even more exciting. Currently, Michigan holds the best recruiting class in the nation which QB Jadyn Davis highlights. Davis and many other recruits will look to change the culture of this team and provide even more championship talent for Harbaugh to work with. With current starting QB J.J McCarthy being draft eligible after the 2023 season, Davis will be expected to be his replacement. It will be very hard for this Michigan Football team not to be in the national champion conversation.

So..How far can Michigan Football go?

The championship window for the Wolverines may never close with the current state of this program. However, fans haven’t experienced a national championship since 1997 and Michigan may currently be in one of the best possible positions. After defeating Ohio State in back-to-back seasons and clinching a CFP berth, the expectations going forward are championship or bust. This winning is expected to continue and should continue. Although Georgia is still the top dog, Michigan has all the talent and tools to beat any team in the nation.
