The Wolverines traveled to College Park to take on Maryland. Michigan was looking to sweep the season series against Terrapins after beating them on New Year’s Day 81-46.
First half
Michigan started slow. The Wolverines only scored eight points in the first ten minutes of the game, and the defense was simply lacking. The Terrapins got up quick, 19-8, in the first ten minutes. Maryland turn the Michigan turnovers into points, which has been the team’s Achilles heel all season. However, as the first half progressed, Michigan’s mistakes improved, and the team was able to close the scoring margin.
The team shot 13/26 (50%) from the field, and Hunter Dickinson rounded out the first half with 10 points and 3 rebounds. Jett Howard added 11 points and 1 rebound, and Michigan was able to close the gap and only be down by two at halftime. The score at halftime was 34-32, Maryland.
Second half
In the second half, Michigan was able to tie the game at 44 with 11 minutes left, but they had no answer for Jahmir Young, who finished with 26 points. Hunter Dickinson led Michigan (10-8, 4-3) with a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jett Howard finished the night with 13 points and 3 rebounds as Michigan shot 8-for-28 from three point range. With the win, Maryland snaps a five-game losing streak against the Wolverines. Michigan’s next game will be at home against Minnesota, who lost at home 61-35 over Purdue on Thursday night.
