Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown returned to practice Friday after two weeks of absence. St. Brown suffered an ankle injury in the 28-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. His return to practice sheds light on the possibility of him playing in the Week 5 matchup with the New England Patriots on Sunday.

St. Brown has been a focal point of the Lions’ offense. So far this season, he has 23 receptions for 253 yards and 3 touchdowns. The receiver has recorded a plethora of notables this year, including being named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 2 of this season. He also established a new NFL record with his sixth-straight game with at least eight receptions and a touchdown. Dan Campbell spoke on St. Brown’s return Friday.

“I mean, well certainly any time you can get a player like him back, it helps with production but also just what he brings. He’s a spark plug, he’s a leader, he’s a hardhat guy. He’s going to bring his lunch pail and go to work, so just to have him in any capacity would be very helpful.”

The Lions would certainly benefit from St. Brown playing on Sunday. However, if he’s unable, the Lions will likely revert to Kalif Raymond and Tom Kennedy. Kennedy was signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad earlier in the week.

D’Andre Swift has been absent from practice all week with a shoulder injury. He is likely out for the game on Sunday. Dan Campbell is thankful for next week’s bye in hopes several injured players will get the allotted rest they need to return.

“You know what’s interesting is normally when you think about the bye, you would love to have it right in the middle of the season, literally Week 10ish, somewhere in there, but it couldn’t have come at a better time for us. I mean it actually is a blessing, and so it’ll be huge to have this bye next week, because we will get a significant amount of our players back and very good players back. And so, it’s a blessing. Good lord’s looking after us.”

The Detroit Lions head to Gillette Stadium for a matchup against the New England Patriots on Sunday at 1pm.
